This is the calm Hudson River about 4pm, 8 hours before Irene tears the place up. Very dreary but very calm.
The traffic police have very little traffic to direct since mostly everyone has either left the Zone A --- The evacuation zone or are hunkering down awaiting Irene.

I live in Zone B and although I am anxious I don't feel like this is an impending meteor strike that will end the age of the dinosaurs.
Some businesses and dwellings placed sand bag by their doors. Many, many others didn't use sand bags.
And of course there is the window tape.
Not everyone chose to leave and they will hunker down with their stored food and water. They could wait for as long as three or four days until the electricity gets turned back on. I wish them well and a safe adventure.
But through it all will be CBS's Pablo Guzman and his intrepid news crew like
Eric and others. They will be there reporting the news when the storm surge hits later on Sunday.
Let us hope all is less than expected.
